“Like sun after heavy rain,” Russian composer Alexander Scriabin instructed that one passage should be played. Scriabin was fascinated by the relationship between music and light, assigning colors to particular musical keys. For this performance by Georgian pianist Eteri Andjaparidze, Jennifer Tipton has merged Scriabin’s mystical music with her own intricate, colorful lighting design to create a spellbindingly unusual experience of sound and sight.
“We allow a sort of chamber ensemble communication between light and sound.” —Eteri Andjaparidze
