Olivier Latry, organ

ALL-MESSIAEN PROGRAM
Apparition de l’église éternelle
Verset pour la Fête de la Dédicace
Selections from Livre du Saint Sacrement, Messe de la Pentecôte, Livre d’orgue, and La Nativité du Seigneur

Olivier Latry performed Messiaen's Prière après la Communion, from Livre du Saint Sacrement, as an encore.

Composer Olivier Messiaen holds a singular place in music. Informed by his joyous, exuberant faith, his unclassifiable sound often contains colorful evocations of birdsong. Internationally renowned Messiaen specialist Olivier Latry, an organist for Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral, presents an all-Messiaen program on Alice Tully Hall’s recently restored Kuhn organ.

“Olivier Latry plays the organ as [if] it were a living thing, coloring every nuance, conjuring up every combination requested by Messaien, enhancing and bringing to life each harmonic and rhythmic twist. Just perfect.”
