BEETHOVEN: Missa solemnis
Atop the manuscript of this vast, rarely heard choral masterwork, Beethoven inscribed: “From the heart—may it return to the heart.” First unyeilding in its massiveness, then soft and tender, the Missa solemnis effects its spiritual force through powerful orchestration and a deep sensitivity to the text. Here, the venerated Sir Colin Davis conducts one of the musical world’s great treasures, the London Symphony Orchestra.
